Background to Cervical Cancer
It is estimated that cervical cancer screening saves over 4,000 lives a year in England.However, over half a million cases of new cervical cancers are diagnosed across the globe; mostly in developing countries where there are no effective screening programmes. Recommended Schedule for HPV Vaccination: Each individual should have three (3) vaccine injections at month 0, month 2 and 6 month. The
latest figures available show that there were 2,221 new cases of
cervical cancer in England in 2004. Thanks to the NHS Cervical Cancer
Screening Programme the occurrence of cervical cancer has declined
markedly over the last 10-15 years amounting to a fall of over 40%.
